GRANGEVILLE: Wilma (Kurdy) Uhlenkott, 90, died at home on October 13, 2012, in Grangeville, Idaho after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Wilma was born in Grangeville, on Nov. 6, 1921, to Will and Effie Woods. She lived in the Grangeville area with her family all her life. She married Tony Kurdy in 1944 and had seven children, one of whom died in infancy. Tony died in 1964, and in 1966, Wilma married Robert Uhlenkott. Their combined families included 10 children.
Wilma was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Grangeville, serving as the parish organist for many years. She also played the piano weekly at the Grangeville Convalescent Home for a number of years. She enjoyed her bridge club and sewing club, attending each until late this past winter. She was also an avid Mariners’ fan.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, as well as by her infant son, Joe, her brother, Ivan, and her sisters, Ruth Chatfield and Margaret Deardorff. She is survived by her husband, Bob, her children, Linda Uhlenkott (Joe Downs), Ed Kurdy (MiDa), Allen Uhlenkott (Pam), Margaret Lluellyn, Dwight Uhlenkott (Sue), Jim Kurdy (Maggie), Don Kurdy (Terri), Connie Ehrhard (Dan), Mary Crum (Doug), and Andy Kurdy. Wilma is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled Friday morning, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Grangeville. The funeral mass will be preceded by Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Services are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangevillle. Burial will follow at Denver Cemetery.
