Robert Eugene Kaufman, former resident of Salem, died on March, 28th, 2019, from Alzheimer’s, at the of age 92. He was born a twin, on June 5th 1926, the 5th of 10 children, in Norris, South Dakota to Otto & Martha (Goehring) Kaufman. The family moved to Grangeville, ID in 1934, where he graduated high school in 1945. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers when time allowed. He served in the US Army from March 1946-December 1946.
Robert attended Kinmen Business School and taught dance lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Spokane, WA. He was married to Jowyn Louise Villager from September 1, 1957 to 1976. They had one daughter, Kimberley (Kaufman) Miles. Robert was proud to sell life insurance for Lutheran Brotherhood for over 30 years. He had hundreds of clients in the Spokane, Pullman and Moscow area. He had happy memories of a special trip to Hawaii, water skiing with his brother Marvin, training his German Shepard Zeina, and his classic Ford Thunderbird.
Bob moved to Salem in the early 1980’s to be closer to his mother and sisters, Shirley & Sharon. He was a member at Immanuel Lutheran church for many years. Bob enjoyed working in his yard and keeping his office and home organized. He spent the last years at The Springs Living Center, in Sherwood Oregon, where he was known for his wonderful singing voice. He is preceded in death by his parents & 8 siblings. He is survived by his sister Sharon Kaufman, his daughter Kim, her husband Michael, their sons Jason and Jordan Miles, plus many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held in Grangeville, on Tuesday, April 2nd at 10am. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran in Salem, at 11am on Saturday, April 13th 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s research-
