GRANGEVILLE: Richard N. Lothspeich, 77, died at his home in Grangeville, December 20, 2004 after an extended illness.

Born in Colfax, Washington on March 8, 1927 to Anthony F. and Neva (Newton) Lothspeich, he attended school there and graduated in 1945. He served in the Army Infantry in WWII and then attended Washington State College (WSU). Once again he was called to duty and he served in the Korean War.

The couple made their home in Colfax where he worked in banking and securities until he began work at Brown and Holter’s car dealership in 1957. He was the bookkeeper and later started selling in 1959. He moved his family to Moscow in 1965 when he went into partnership with Jack Zimmer at Zimmer Motors. In 1968 he acquired his own dealership in partnership with John Gortsema at Gortsema Motors, Inc., in Grangeville. He became the dealer and owner in 1972 and made it the family business that still operates today.
He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and any family outing in the beautiful mountains and outdoors surrounding the Grangeville region he so loved. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, IADA, North Idaho Development Corp., and N.R.A.
