Richard E. “Dick” Gribble, 83

Richard E. ‘Dick’ Gribble passed away on December 8th, 2011 at his home in Grangeville, Idaho. He was born to Andy and Rose Ruff Gribble February 3rd, 1928 at the Konrad Place on Green Creek near Harpster, Idaho. He went to grade school in Harpster and High school in Kooskia and Stites. In 1952 he met the love of his life, Virginia Parks and they married July 10th 1953. Three children were born to them, Crystal , Rich and Sandy.  During the early years of their marriage Dick was drafted into the Army and went to Korea after basic training at Fort Ord in California. Dick spent his early working life on the Camas Prairie Railroad as a Gandy Dancer and later in Cox’s Mill and different logging operations around Grangeville Idaho. He did a short stint on the construction of Brownlee Dam. He enjoyed his free time hunting and fishing with his children  and his father-in-law, Earl Parks. He loved mushrooming in the spring and taught at least one of his children the art. Reading was one of his favorite pastimes and Louie L`amour his favorite author. Dick was a member of the Mason’s and the Elks Lodge. He was devoted to Virginia and seemed happiest sitting next to her listening to her talk. Her death in 2007 devastated him. Dick had many relatives, neighbors and friends he visited with and he enjoyed going to his favorite restaurant more for the visiting than the food. In addition to Virginia he was preceded in death by his younger brother Glen.  Dick is survived by his older brother Melvin, daughter Crystal (Bob), and sons Rich (Debra) and Sandy (Kati), six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service is at Blackmer Funeral Home at on Saturday, December 17th at  11:00 o’clock with burial at Mt. Idaho Cemetery.   Friends may call Friday, December 16th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.  There will be a potluck at Dick’s house for friends and family after the burial. Memorials may be made to Syringa Hospital Hospice or the Kid’s Klub in Dicks name. Send condolences to the family to:
