Oliva I. Stevens, 91 of Grangeville passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Oliva I. Stevens of Grangeville, Idaho was born on Nov. 4, 1920 in Keuterville, Idaho, the fifth of nine children born to Charles J. and Mary Ann Schmidt Poxleitner. She married Dean P. Brady in Oct. of 1939 and they raised four children before Dean died in a mill yard accident in 1970. Four years later she married Leroy Stevens, her constant companion for the next 31 years.
The outdoors always drew Oliva like a magnet. Big game hunting, fishing , searching for mushrooms or huckleberries, or simply driving a mountain road were all activities she pursued up to the day of her death. Prior to Leroy’s death in 2005 they made an extended annual trip to Alaska to fish.
Of a very independent nature, Oliva enjoyed living in her own home, daily walks, yard work, and gathering wood for her wood stove. She especially enjoyed the occasional visits from her four children, 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. She also enjoyed being continually involved in the various activities at Saints Peter and Paul Parish.
She is survived by a brother Vincent (Alma) Poxleitner of Keuterville Idaho; her children, Deanna Mortenson of Grangeville Idaho; William (Bev) Brady of Portland, Oregon; Joyce (Roy) Dickey of Grangeville, Idaho; and Raymond (Jean) Brady of Grangeville, Idaho.
Surviving stepchildren are Daniel and Marilyn Stevens of Mission, Texas; Dierdre Affleck of Renton, Washington; and Heidi and Bob Jennings of Roy, Washington.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville followed my a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
