GRANGEVILLE: JOHN E. KLEMENT, age 66, a resident of White Bird, died Monday, November 1, 2004 at Syringa General Hospital of a heart attack.
John was born January 16, 1938 at Floyd, NM to Alvin and Rosalee Fahsholtz Klement. The family moved to Hugo, Colorado in 1946. John moved to Priest River, Idaho in 1956 and that same year he moved to Doumecq and worked on the Smith Brothers Ranch.
In 1960 he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1962. After the service he moved to Joseph Plains and worked on the Vanpool Ranch. He married Janet Frei at Ferdinand, ID on June 24, 1967. He worked for Green Brothers at Grangeville from 1967 until 1974 when he went to work for Brown Motors in Grangeville. That same year he started running his own cattle herd. In 1981 he went to work on the Robinson ranch and worked there until he retired in 2001. He has continued to run his own cattle until the time of his death.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Grangeville, the Idaho and Lewis County Cattleman’s Association and at the present time was serving as President. A member of the Idaho Cattleman’s Association and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, hunting, dutch oven cooking and his many friends.
Survivors include his wife Janet at the family home. Three daughters, Lisa and Gary Canaday, Lori and Carl DeFord of Grangeville and Leslie and Kevin Vannoy of Lewiston. Three sons, Don and Michelle Klement of Emmett, ID, Jason and Tricia Klement of Grangeville and Dean of White Bird. Two sisters, Mary and Jack Dillon of Colorado Springs, CO and Ruth Hurtado of Taos, NM. One brother, Tom and Judy Klement of Ericksdale, Manitoba, CA. 11 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
One brother and one grandson, Kyle John Klement preceded him in death.
A funeral vigil service will be held Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with funeral mass to follow on Friday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul. Burial will follow at the White Bird Cemetery. Father William Crowley as celebrant. Family suggests memorials to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School.
