Harvey “Dean” Cox, 65 of Grangeville, passed away October 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane from causes related to Parkinsons.
He was born March 15, 1948 to Harvey and Laura Mae Turner Cox in Grangeville, Idaho. He graduated from Grangeville High School in 1966 and married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Long, on August 17, 1968. He served in Vietnam for a year and was wounded in action on June 18, 1969.
After his Army service he returned to Grangeville and worked at Howard’s Meat Processing and then the Union Warehouse. He started farming full time in 1974 and also raised hogs and stock cows.
Our first son, Mitchell was born January 6, 1975 followed by Marie on April 24, 1978 and Russell was born April 17, 1984.
Dean loved hunting, training and riding horses, farming and ranching and playing the guitar. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Grangeville and his faith was an important part of his life. He was a loving husband, Dad and Grandpa and we will miss him very much.
Dean is survived by his wife, Katherind, son Mitch (Leslie) and granddaughter Kenedie Cox, daughter Marie (Kirstin) and grandson Colton Jensen-Cox and son Russell. He is also survived by his sister, Faye (Jim) Babb and sister in law Barbie Cox and brother in law Doug Long and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Grangeville Christian Church with pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 20th, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Research or to the Gideons.
