George R. Polack, 86
On Friday, September 25th, 2020, George R. Polack, husband of the late Joan Polack of Morganville, NJ, died at his home in Grangeville, ID, at the age of 86 after a brief illness.
George was born to John and Mary (née Lokay) Polack and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from James J. Ferris High School before working for Western Union in the New York Metropolitan area as a technician for 40 years. In 1956, he married Joan Kubinski and settled in Bayonne, NJ, to raise their three children. With both of his sons, George was long active in the Bayonne Boy Scouting community, earning the unofficial title “outdoor chairman” of their troop.
In 2016, after several visits, George made the decision to move to Idaho to be closer to family. While here, he enjoyed camping and spending time with special friends he met through his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Bette. Some of the things he enjoyed were drives to see the beautiful vistas of Idaho County, including White Bird Summit for a favorite cigar. But his favorite drive was to Lewiston to visit the Clearwater River Casino.
In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. He is survived by his son Jeffrey and his wife, Bette; his daughter, Judith, and her husband, Neil Nelson; his son Eric and his wife, Susan; two grandchildren, Neil Nelson and Audrey Sullivan; and four great grandchildren; two bonus grandchildren, Kori Penkert and Kiley Johnson; and 5 bonus great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Gatto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At George’s request, there will be a private celebration of life for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers George request donations be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Syringa Hospital Hospice, Grangeville, Idaho.
