Christine M. Winkler, 94

Christine Mary Winkler, 94, a life long homemaker, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville from causes related to age while surrounded by her loving family.

Christine was born March 26, 1913 in Greencreek, Idaho, a daughter of Clemens and Elizabeth Wassmuth. She grew up in the Greencreek area, and married Sylvester “Wink” Winkler on November 26, 1935 in Greencreek. Christine and Wink were married for 63 loving and devoted years. She was a caring and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an avid gardener, quilt maker, and baker extraordinaire.

Christine was a faithful member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Grangeville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester; three brothers, Joesef Wassmuth, Nicholas Wassmuth, and Clarence Wassmuth; one sister, Cecilia Wassmuth; and sons, John and Ralph Winkler.

Christine is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Johnson Fleury of Kamiah, Idaho, and Gretta Fischer of Grangeville; six sons, Cletus Winkler of Clarkston, Washington, Gregg Winkler of Grangeville, Ronald Winkler of Rathdrum, Idaho, Kenneth Winkler of Boise, Ed Winkler of Libby, Montana, and Jerry Winkler of Clarkston; six brothers, Clarence Wassmuth of Ferdinand, Idaho, Clemens Wassmuth of Cottonwood, Idaho, Lawrence Wassmuth, Anthony Wassmuth and Leonard Wassmuth, all of Grangeville, and Vincent Wassmuth of Titusville, Florida; three sisters, Bernadine Bruegeman, Hildegarde Wassmuth and Elizabeth Wassmuth, all of Cottonwood; 29 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

A vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, also at the church. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

Family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School.
