Allen R. Johnson, 66

Allen R. Johnson, 66, of the Winona area, was killed in a 4-wheeler accident on August 28, 2009, while attending cattle near Elk City. 

 

Allen was born October 14, 1942, to Melvin and Evalyn Meyer Johnson, at Cottonwood. 

 

He graduated from Nezperce High School in 1960. He then went to Idaho State University in Pocatello and earned a Vo-Tech degree in mechanics in 1962. 

 

He married Barbara (Bobby) McKay in 1965. In 1968, Allen was deployed to Vietnam with the 116th Battalion for a year and returned back home in 1969. 

 

Allen lived in the Winona area for most of his life. Along with being a farmer/rancher, he worked at Hoene Implement, TWT Trucking, DeAtley Construction, and for the Winona Road District. 

 

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working on his antique tractors in his shop; helping neighbors and friends; helping out with the ranch, and especially spending time in Elk City. 

 

He was a lifetime member of the Elks; past director of the Idaho County Cattleman’s, and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nezperce. 

 

Allen is survived by his wife, Barbara (Bobby) Johnson, at their Winona home; son Rick Johnson of Grangeville; daughter Brenda Sellner of Grangeville; sister Barbara Lynn Thompson of Nezperce; grandchildren Shawn Truedson of Lewiston, Ashley Carpenter of Helena, Montana, and Caitlyn Johnson of Grangeville. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Evalyn Johnson. 

 

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the Blackmer Funeral Home, 305 N. Mill Street, in Grangeville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at   Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville.  

 

Following the graveside, a potluck will be held at the Brent and Jeannie Morris residence, 276 Market Road, north of Fenn. Directions will be posted along U.S. Highway 95. 

 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.
